Earlier this year Key State launched the Web of Trust Map, the first comprehensive visualization of the decentralized identity industry. Since then, it has become a living reference for understanding who is building the infrastructure, where projects are emerging, and how different players interact to shape the space.
The Web of Trust Map not only provides a view of the landscape, but is also an open and dynamic resource built to guide decision-making, research, and industry growth. Building on that, the Web of Trust Map Findings Report was written to analyze key trends, bring up actionable insights, and provide a clearer understanding of where the decentralized identity ecosystem is heading.
Inside the report, you will find:
- How COVID-19 sparked the 2020–21 boom in digital ID
- Early use cases in health, education, finance, and other industries
- Features on major consortia: W3C, DIF, LFDT, ToIP, INATBA, and OWF
- Which blockchains and standards lead the space
- Regional trends across the world
Alongside the release of this report, the Web of Trust Map API is now publicly available. By opening access to the underlying data, this becomes a tool for researchers, policymakers, and industry actors to conduct their own analyses, build new tools, and generate new insights. Everything is open under CC BY 4.0, free to integrate into your research, apps, or analysis tools. This open and collaborative approach is central to the project’s mission, making the decentralized identity ecosystem not only visible but also actionable for everyone.
